WindProven™ is GAF's limited wind warranty available on LayerLock®-labeled shingles (like Timberline HDZ and UHDZ) when installed with GAF starter strip shingles and qualifying accessories. Unlike standard wind warranties capped at 110-130 mph, WindProven has no maximum wind speed limitation — meaning if the wind blows it off, GAF covers it regardless of wind speed. This is especially valuable for Florida hurricane country.
Class 4 is the highest impact-resistance rating under UL 2218 testing — the shingle must withstand a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet without cracking. GAF Timberline UHDZ and ArmorShield II both carry this rating. In Florida, Class 4 shingles can qualify you for significant homeowner's insurance premium discounts, often 10-28%, which can offset the higher material cost over time.
